This workshop will focus on Santa Fe imagery using the “dropped in color” technique, which incorporates luminosity and brilliance in watercolor. The process is an exploratory, multiple layer, color fusion style of painting that allows the pigments to blend and combine naturally on the paper support without making “mud”. Contemporary painting techniques will include batik methods with Masa paper. Drawing techniques will be demonstrated to give students the confidence they need!
Simple printmaking techniques will be incorporated onto the painted surfaces. Color pencils and collage elements will be added to embellish shapes. Students will also experience translucent collage, mark making and surface textures to create magnified, close-up botanical compositions combined with the imagery of Santa Fe. A field trip to the Museum of International Folk Art and to various outdoor locations will take place for students to gather ideas, paint, and draw.
All Levels - no drawing skills needed.
