A week-long intensive ONLINE workshop to help you plan, write, and develop your book—at whatever stage you’re at! Join a small group of fellow writers and give yourself time and attention to that dream of starting or finishing your novel, memoir, or nonfiction book through daily workshops and private coaching with Mary on Zoom.
Books often start with a simple yearning to explore new territory: especially topics you find fascinating, characters who won’t leave you alone, and good stories. But manuscripts get unwieldy--fast. Nine out of ten writers never finish their manuscripts because most first-time book writers get lost without good structure and planning.
Mary is an award-winning author of 13 books in three genres and a PEN/Faulkner nominee, with plenty of experience to guide you through her simple and successful book-writing process. She’s worked with hundreds of writers over two decades, helping them take their book from idea to publication, focusing on structure, the often-missing link that makes a manuscript vivid and engaging to readers.
Each day you’ll enjoy a learning-packed morning workshop on Zoom, plus afternoon private coaching sessions and plenty of time to write in between. Gain accountability through daily feedback on what you are learning and kind support from our generous online community. Come away from your creative week with real accomplishments, goals met, and new skills to use.
For all levels of writers working on nonfiction, memoir, or novels at any stage from seed idea to draft.
Meet and greet gatherings take place prior to the workshop where students will get to know their fellow classmates and instructor. Once enrolled, students will receive detailed instructions on how to access the workshop through Zoom. Technical support will be available 72 hours before the start of the workshop.
All sessions will be recorded and available to stream 30 days after the end of the workshop.

"Mary taught me what a successful narrative structure is and how to craft my story within one, both the overall arc and each chapter. Her feedback was always encouraging yet honest, so I could trust her notes. I recommend Mary's support to improve your projects and get things finished."
—Jennifer Louden, bestselling author of Why Bother? and many other books
"My life and my book changed when I took my first class with Mary in 2012. I got excited listening to her in the classroom. She's telling me the formula I need for writing my book, I thought. The exercises we did helped me figure out the point of my book. I could've gone in so many directions and the class helped me hone in on what I was trying to say."
