Genre: Fiber Arts
Denise DeGidio
Denise DeGidio has been patching, stitching, and mending her clothes by hand for decades – in many ways her own fiber story begins here. She lives in Northern Wisconsin and has a love for Lake Superior and Madeline Island that runs deep and has been exploring the beauty of the Apostle Islands for long as mending life has been part of her artistic practice.
She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in visual arts with a concentration in fiber art – centering around weaving, textiles, knitwear, natural dyes, and surface design and has traveled around the country and internationally studying this medium.
Denise has been a fibers instructor in higher education and teaches workshops and classes locally and nationally. She appreciates using traditional craft and techniques to stay connected with how these methods and materials have been used over time and is equally inspired by the stories that our wardrobe has to tell.
